From a lockdown conversation to Central America's leading insurtech.
Born from a real problem, built with purpose
It was 2020, and the world had stopped. Estuardo Escobar was locked down in El Salvador, spending time with Alejandro Argumedo, the CEO and co-founder of hugo, the region's leading delivery super-app. As the pandemic raged, delivery drivers became essential workers overnight. The delivery boom was unprecedented.
But there was a glaring problem: most delivery drivers had no insurance, and no product existed for them in Central America. These riders were navigating dangerous roads daily, yet they were completely unprotected. The gap was massive, and nobody was filling it.
The timing was almost uncanny. Estuardo was married to a Swiss wife, and Daniel Butz, his future co-founder, was married to a Salvadorean wife, both working in consulting and insurance in Switzerland. Meanwhile, Roland Voggenauer was preparing to launch an MGA in the Middle East, but when he saw the Latin American opportunity, the choice was clear.
The three came together around a single, staggering insight:
This wasn't just a business opportunity: it was a moral imperative. Millions of people across Central America lacked the most basic financial safety net. One accident, one illness, one natural disaster could wipe out a family's entire savings.
Sostengo was founded to change that. To build the technology, the products, and the distribution to make insurance simple, accessible, and reliable, starting from the ground up.

Sostengo El Salvador Founded
The company is officially incorporated in El Salvador, marking the beginning of our mission to insure Central America.
$1.35M Pre-Seed Round Closed
First institutional funding secured, validating the vision and accelerating product development.
First Fully Digital Car Insurance
Launched Central America's first 100% digital car insurance product in partnership with Seguros Azul.
First Digital Motorbike & Delivery Product
Pioneered the first digital insurance product for motorbike and delivery drivers with Asesuisa.
Guatemala Expansion
Expanded into Guatemala with an MGA car insurance product in partnership with Seguros Universales.
360 Marketplace Launch
Launched the 360 Marketplace, a comprehensive platform comparing insurance across all major carriers.
